Captain Fantastic seals win for Old Loughts Ladies
City of Peterborough W1s 0 Old Loughtonians W1s 1
Old Loughtonians Women’s 1s secured all three points away at City of Peterborough with captain Tash Patient scoring the vital goal in their opening game of the new campaign in the East Area Women’s Premier Division. A tight first half saw limited opportunities for both sides with the defences largely on top. Loughts’ three debutants Adele Sammons, India Blake and Em Davies all impressed in their first league game.
The second half started with Loughts increasing the pressure on City of Peterborough and winning a series of penalty corners. However Peterborough defended superbly; thwarting all of Loughts[‘ opportunities. The breakthrough came 15 minutes from time with Tash Patient driving into the D and finishing with a well rehearsed reverse dink into the far corner. Loughts managed the remaining time well with Player of the Match Beth Macgregor in outstanding form.
The Women’s 2s had a tough introduction to Division 1 South following their promotion last year and lost 1-4 to Brentwood 1s. The Women’s 3’s however impressed with a 2-0 win against Havering 2s inspired by captain and Man of the Match Jane Blake and with goals from Ellie Joyce and Alannah Foskett. The W4s had a difficult first fixture against a first team and lost 1-3 to Colne 1s but the W5s won 7-0 against Waltham Forest 4s with Poppy Dias scoring 5 and one each from Selin Halil and Esha Narwal.
Bath Buccaneers M1s 1- Old Loughtonians M1s 4
After promotions for the Men’s 1s, 2s and 3s last season, all three started with tough away fixtures. The Men’s 1s travelled West to face a strong Bath Buccaneers side in the England Hockey National league division 1 South. Bath Buccs had finished third in the league last season and Loughts were prepared for a stiff test. After a dominant display in the first half Loughts were 2-0 up and at full time it was 4-1 with a goal apiece from new signing James Thomas and rampaging full back Ed Fleet and two from summer signing Euan Gilmour. Next week Loughts face Old Cranleighans at home.
The Men’s 2s headed East to Norfolk to play Harleston Magpies for their first match in the East premier league. In a tight match they came away with a well deserved point after a 2-2 draw. The Men’s 3s (the only 3rd team in Division 1 South) faced first team opposition from neighbours Waltham Forest and succumbed 0-2.
Youth teams were also in action. On Sunday the u18 boys had a strong win away against local rivals Southgate. They won 4-0 with goals from Jack Moffat (2), Caspian Coupe and Archie Crowley. The girls u16s were away at St Alban’s and lost 0-3. The u14 boys travelled the short distance to Crostyx and in a one sided contest won 12-0.
