Old Loughtonians Hockey Club Limited - Code of conduct for parents, guardians and carers
The club has adopted this policy which is an adaptation of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (“NSPCC”) code of conduct for parents in sport.
The code is part of the club’s overall code of conduct. Every parent, guardian and carer must agree to adhere to this code as a condition of membership for a mini or colt member.
The Essentials
make sure your child has the right kit for each session (whether training or matches) as well as enough food and drink;
make sure your child arrives at and is collected from sessions on time. It is your responsibility to bring your child to the pitch and to the coach in charge and to collect your child from the pitch and the coach in charge (not the car park);
If you would like your child to be collected by anybody other than you then you must (in the interests of safety) give consent in writing to the club in advance;
ensure that captains, coaches and managers are aware of any medical conditions and that your child is provided with the necessary medication for home or away matches and training sessions together with clear instructions as to use;
make sure your child has and wears all protective kit recommended by England Hockey. It is not the responsibility of captains, coaches or managers to check that parents have provided their child with the right kit;
maintain a good relationship with your child’s coach and manager and discuss your child’s development with them proactively and objectively;
report any accident, bullying or other incident promptly in accordance with the club’s safeguarding policies.
Behaviour
please learn about the sport of hockey and what it means to your child;
talk to your child about what you and your child would like to achieve in hockey;
remember that children have a wide range of benefits from participating in hockey such as making friends with common interests, developing skills or even just exercising;
listen if your child does not want to participate;
always participate in a positive way on the sidelines. Shout encouragement (for example “well done|”) but at no time disparage your own team or the opposition;
think about how the way in which you react to decisions may have an impact on those who respect your support;
lead by example and always consider how your own behaviour may affect the behaviour of your own child and others in your club;
never question the umpire’s decision (even if it may be wrong) and never abuse officials, coaches, managers, players, spectators or fellow parents;
as a member of the club always use social media to support the club and never as a means to undermine individuals;
talk to your child regularly about embracing sportsmanship and good etiquette;
stress to your child the importance of not only playing by the rules but also sportsmanship;
ensure that your child fully understands and abides by all of the club’s policies.

We may need to ask you for specific additional consents such as, for example for your child to go on a trip or to attend an event such as Fun in the Forest.
If, at any time you have any concerns at all about any aspects of your child’s hockey at the club please contact the club in accordance with the internet and acceptable use policy set out below.
Expectations and discipline
In the interests of safety we expect all parents to follow the behaviours and actions set out in this code and to ensure that any guest with them at the club also does so. If any parent behaves in any which contradicts any of the code then we will aim to address the issue straight away with the individual and aim to resolve the issue as quickly as possible without the need to involve the club’s discipline officer.
Repeated or persistent breaches are likely to result in parents being asked not to attend if their attendance is considered to be a risk to the welfare and enjoyment of any mini, colt or adult players, managers, coaches, other volunteers or officials or spectators.
Persistent breaches may also lead to the discipline officer terminating membership which is not something we would want to do but we must have a zero tolerance approach to breaches which could have any impact on welfare and safeguarding.
Old Loughtonians Hockey Club Limited - Code of conduct for use of the internet, web-site communications and social media
The club has a web user guide which covers the authorised use of the club website by captains, coaches, managers and club officials.
This policy covers the use of online communication between;
(a) members themselves; and
(b) members and captains, coaches, managers, club officials and other club volunteers (together “Club Representatives”)
as well as the use of the internet and social media generally.

These statements are made by each member for themselves and by each parent or guardian on behalf of their child (mini or colt member).
