Old Loughtonians W1s travelled to Kent on Saturday afternoon and returned with all three points following a 2-0 win in the England Hockey Women’s Conference East.
Player of the Match young keeper Lottie Dodsworth stepped up for her 1st team National League debut and shone brightly making a number of notable saves throughout the game to keep Canterbury at bay.
Loughts picked up two early cards but made a positive start to the fixture with fast paced attacking hockey and two minutes before the end of the first quarter Adele Sammons burst through the Canterbury defence and buried a fierce strike into the bottom corner.
Striving for a second before half time Loughts found the post from a penalty corner and then drew a fine save from the Canterbury keeper.
Into quarter three a sweeping move started by Georgia Davies and finished by a deft touch from Maddy Newlyn would have been goal of the season if it had not been for an incredible stop in the Canterbury goal. However with minutes remaining in the quarter Newlyn ran free drew the keeper and unselfishly passed to India Blake who doubled Loughts lead from a tight angle.
Loughts saw out the game comfortably despite being reduced to nine players briefly in the final quarter. The win leaves Old Loughts W1s in 5th place as they return to action in two weeks time at home against Sevenoaks W2s.
