As match day Saturday draws to a close each week, a vast number of parents, coordinators, volunteers and coaches start the preparation for our Sunday mini section. We have almost 200 children participating covering age groups u8 to u12 and it’s quite a sight to witness the energy, enthusiasm and sheer enjoyment that everyone brings to our beloved sport.
There are various independent club held tournaments throughout the season which culminate in the Essex Championships, which was played at a sunny Redbridge yesterday, Sunday 02nd March 2025.
OLHC is proud of all our age groups with some great competitive hockey being played throughout the day, but our Girls really shined yesterday with both the u10 and u12 winning their respective leagues that will lead to representation at the Regionals and hopefully Nationals.
u10 Boys - came 2nd equal (of 5 teams) but unfortunately just slipped to 3rd on goal diff
u12 Boys - won 2 of their 5 games that resulted in a very close group with 2nd to 4th again being decided on goal difference with OLHC coming 4th.
u10 Girls P4 D1 L0! The girls won against Waltham Forest 4-0, Braintree 2-0 and Upminster 3-0 and drew with Chelmsford 0-0. No goals conceded (for the second year running) with Ophelia Chohan making many terrific saves in each game.
u12 Girls - P5 W5! Goals for 14, Goals against 1. Fantastic performances from top to bottom.
Good luck at the Regionals (details will follow) and a huge thank you and well done to all involved – there are many.
